My Why
- To inspire people to own their learning so they can lead a life with purpose.
- To Inspire confidence and motivate people to become physical literate so we can be better equipped to impact our community.
What I Believe
- I am not in charge of students learning. What I mean is that I can not make students learn. I want my students to take ownership of their learning. They have got to want to learn. My job is to be a facilitator to their learning. Help show them other ways to learn, give them feedback when they struggle, and occasional show them new content.
- Class should be engaging and active. With my PE background I know the importance of activity and how well that helps your brain. If a lesson isn't getting the kids out of their seats then we will do brain boosters.
- Mistakes are important. How can students learn from mistakes if they are never encouraged to make them?
- I want complexity or rigor in my classroom. More is not always better.
- I think homework is over rated. Especially one size fits all homework. #DitchHW.
- Grades are overrated too. #DitchGrades
When I am not teaching I am doing my favorite job, which is getting to be a dad and husband. I am blessed with two beautiful kids LuLu and Felix. I am blessed that my wife, Jenni, is so supportive and puts up with my long hours. When I am not teaching we enjoy drinking maté, going on walks, camping trips, and going on random driving adventures to find new places to eat or walk around. Felix and I right now love playing games like Monopoly, Ticket-To-Ride, and Yahtzee.
